Guelph - Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day

Guelph – Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day

Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day has been rapidly gaining popularity amongst betters and entertainers. It is a Group 1 race for three year old horses (fillies) with a set weight of 1600 meters. All the horses run for $502,000 prize in one of the featured and most anticipated events in the Spring Carnival. This year’s Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day will be held this Wednesday the 16th of October at The Caufield Racecourse.

In the past this race was held on the same day as the Caufield Guineas, but in 1988 it was shifted to Wednesday, just few days after the Caufield Guineas. The winning or high rankings horses will move on to compete in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes on Saturday the 2nd of November and Group 1 Crown Oaks on Thursday the 7th of November.

This race is in many ways equivalent to the Caufield Guineas. The only difference is that this race is for the female horses or fillies whereas the Caufield Guineas is held for the geldings and colts. The Schweppes Thousand Guineas is a great insight into the Spring Racing Carnival contenders, and also gives punters an idea on which filly has a chance of winning the Wakeful Stakes and Crown Oaks.

The previous year’s Schweppes Thousand Guineas Day was won by Commanding Jewel. Some of the notable filly winners of this race are Arborea, Alinghi, Northwood Plume and Miss Finland. Some of the winners of this race who have been able to bag the winning title in the Crown Oaks are Richfield Lady in 1991, Arborea in 1993, Northwood Plume in 1994, Magical Miss in 2001, Special Harmony in 2003 and Miss Finland in 2006. Faint Perfume who was placed 3rd race went on to win both the Wakeful Stakes and Crown Oaks.

Currently the betting favourite is Guelph at $1.50 for the Schweppes Thousand Guineas Race due to the 3 year old Filly’s previous success with 6 out of 9 start wins. Guelph has been most successful at Randwick with 4 out of her 6 wins taking place on the NSW track. However, Caufield’s course will not posess no concern with this up and coming champion, as she has won a race there earlier in the year.

This is one of the highly anticipated races where the 3 year old fillies try their best to win the esteemed title and big prize money.

Will Guelph have a second win at Caufield for the Schweppes Thousand Guineas this Wednesday?

The odds are in her favour…
