The Sir John Monash Stakes is one of the major Group 3 sprint races in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. The race is held every year in July at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse in Victoria, South East Australia. Run over a distance of 1100M, the Sir John Monash Stakes is actually the first sprint race of the Melbourne Spring and is today worth up to $120,000 in prize money.

The Sir John Monash Stakes boast’s a proud history of producing some of the top sprinters in Australia over the last few years. In 2013 the race was won by Pago Rock with Elite Elle and Second Effort both finishing second and third respectively. The event was elevated from a listed race to a Group 3 showpiece for the 2013-14 season and even in years to come, the Sir John Monash Stakes is expected to remain one of the major Group 3 races in Australia.

Considering that the race is one of the first sprint races in the Melbourne Spring, the event always assembles a number of high quality sprinters returning to take on the Carnival.
