Darren Weir concluded a successful season as the Metropoliton trainers’ premiership winner

Two wins at Geelong on Sunday was good enough to give trainer Darren Weir the Melbourne Trainers’ Premiership on Sunday. The trainer finished the season with 79 wins, which was 7 ahead of his nearest rival Peter Moody.

A proud and delighted Weir spoke positively of his victory. “It’s been an amazing season. It’s the best season we’ve had,” Weir said. “We can’t really expect to win more races than we have this season,” Weir added.
“You’d be dreaming to think you could do that.”
“So obviously we want to be competitive in better races. That’s the goal we’ve got now.”

After the win by runners Strong Hand and Burning Front at Geelong, Weir’s overall tally for the season throughout the country totalled to 279.
