Queensland Guineas Results: Jabali Posts Surprise Win

Jabali wins the Queensland Guineas 2015 at Doomben

Odds mattered little in the end as the $26 rated Jabali posted a dominant victory in Saturday’s $400,000 Group 2 Sky Racing Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Doomben. The Mick Price trained speedy colt put a surprisingly speedy performance, led by winning hoop Jim Bryne, to win by a comfortably 1-1/4 lengths over the Gerald Ryan trained, second place finishing Bachman.

Price remarked positively on Jabali post victory. “It’s great to see him frank that good early form,” Price said. “Sun International bought into him as a colt and now they’ve got a Group two win with him, hopefully we can get a Group one with him in the spring,” he added.
“Sometimes you just have to persevere with your horse if you believe in him and this horse has always shown he’s capable of winning good races and he’s done that today.”

Bryne looked immensely pleased with the horse’s performance. “He’s a little bit aggressive being a bull,” said Bryne. “But he’s well-credentialed,” he added.
“The horse raced really well today and he run the mile strong.”
“Funnily enough he relaxed and enjoyed the good tempo.”
“With that hot speed and me being able to hold him together as long as possible worked.”

The Michael Moroney trained Merlon finished third, while the Leon & Troy Corstens trained Awesome Rock finished fourth.
