Sons of Johns wins at Hawkesbury

The Jason Attard trained Sons Of John justified the pre-race favourite tag by posting a dominant victory in Saturday’s $150,000 Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m). Starting at $4.60, Sons Of John took the lead around the final 1200m, after which there were simply no horse challenging the local favourite, as winning hoop Jeff Panza guided the gelding to victory.

Attard later remarked positively on his horse. “We skipped a few grades but he’s justified it with the way he’s won,” Attard said. “Wow, it’s great to win the Hawkesbury Cup on our home track.”

The Chris Waller trained Tales Of Grimm finished second, 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner, while his stablemate Rugged Cross finished third by a short neck.
