Hazard wins the Dane Ripper Stakes

The Lee & Anthony Freedman trained Hazard got the better of the $1.90 rated pre-race favourite Catkins by 1-1/4 lengths to win Saturday’s $200,000 Group 2 Best Security Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at Doomben. Starting at $8, the Godolphin mare took the lead in the final 200m after which there was simply no stopping the speedster.

Godolphin’s Australian Manager Henry Plumptre sounded immensely pleased with the trainers and the horse post victory. “We’re pretty excited to have Lee back in the fold,” Plumptre said. “We wanted to get her into the Group 1 and she will be going to the Gold Coast now,” he added.
“If she goes well enough, we might extend her racing for another season.”

Winning jockey James McDonald looked very relieved after the victory. “I know how good Catkins is so it’s good to get the result on her,” the winning hoop said. “She got into a lovely rhythm in the run and she was good.”

The Toby Edmonds trained Bound For Earth finished third, while the Peter & Paul Snowden trained Rose Of Choice finished fourth.
