The Naturalism Stakes is one of the premier middle distance Group 3 races in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. Run over a distance of 2000M, the Naturalism Stakes is considered one of the toughest middle distance races by many horse trainers and jockeys looking to take part in the spring carnival. The Naturalism Stakes is today worth up to $150,000 in prize money and is held annually in September at the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne Victoria.

In 2013, the Naturalism Stakes produced one of the most exciting contests of the carnival with the outstanding Mr. O’Ceirin sprinting his way to the title ahead of Kesampour and Bit of Hell who both had to settle for second and third respectively. The race this year will share the same date with the Group 1 Underwood Stakes and back in 2009, the Naturalism Stakes was actually upgraded from a listed race to a Group 3 showpiece. Since then, the event has grown remarkably and is today a popular race in Victoria.

The Naturalism Stakes is a remarkable spring board for horses that are keen on making a name in big middle distance races. Horses that perform well in this event can take on the big money Caulfield Cup or the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes. The Group 2 Sundown Classic and the Moonee Valley Cup are also great progression races for emerging middle distance runners who contested the Naturalism Stakes. The event is rich in outstanding champions and in recent years, a number of horses have done well in it on course towards other better performances.

In 2007, Maldivian finished second in the race and went on to score an impressive victory in the WS COX Plate at Moonee Valley. On the other hand, December Draw won the 2011 edition of the Naturalism Stakes and later won the Turnbull Stakes in breathtaking fashion. Like many years before, the 2014 edition of the Naturalism Stakes is expected to present to the world a field of emerging middle distance runners much to the satisfaction of horse racing fans who grace this race every year.
