Protectionist Handed Top Weight For Sydney Cup

Protectionist has been allotted the top weight for the Sydney Cup

The Melbourne Cup Winning German Sprinter Protectionist has been allotted the top weight for the $1.6 million Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m), which will be held at Randwick on April 11. As per the weight allottment declared by Racing NSW chief Handicapper Damien Hay, the Kris Lees trained sprinter has been handed a 58kg weight.

The Ed Dunlop trained Red Cadeaux, who has finished the runner up in three Melbourne Cup races, has been given a 56.5kg weight. The Chris Waller trained Who Shot Thebarman has been given 54.5kg which Australian Oaks winning Rising Romance has been handed 53.5kg. The John Moore trained Hong Kong based horse, Dominant, has been allocated 56.5 kg.

Altogether there are 91 weighted entries, where 78 have been allotted the 52kg minimum.
