Ryan Moore has been awarded the World’s Best Jockey for 2014

The Melbourne Cup 2014 winning British jockey Ryan Moore has been crowned the world best jockey by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) in association with timepiece giants, Longines.

The current inaugural version of the award had been announced only last year based upon the performance in the 100 highest-rated Group I and Grade I races globally.

Moore beat Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon to win the award after winning five of the top hundred races around the world. Moore will be presented with the award at the Hong Kong International Carnival on December 12.

However, Australian jockey too didn’t fare too bad in the rankings as four out of top 10 jockeys featured Australian names including Zack Purton at fifth, Damien Oliver at sixth and Tommy Berry and Micheal Rodd, jointly at ninth.
